Shalom Everyone,
Allow me to introduce myself. I am the new President of the the Congregation Temple Beth Shalom, Susan Humphreys. I understand that I have some awfully big shoes to fill. Both Marty and Jill are a hard acts to follow. They have done a fantastic job for years and years. I hope that I do not disappoint them or you. If ever you have any problems, concerns, interests, or ideas; please feel free to call me at 408 661-2283.I would like to be there for you.
I will tell you a little about me.I am an old retired schoolteacher. The majority of my career was in a small town in very rural Idaho. Rural Idaho! You ask are there any Jews in rural Idaho. The answer to that my friends, is no! Because it was such a small, rural school, I taught just about everything at different points in time. It even reached an absurd level of me coaching Junior High Girl's Basketball for 6 years. (Needless to say, we did not have a winning team.)
In my spare time, I paint and play scrabble and cribbage. I am hoping that maybe this will keep my mind sharp.
So back to the business at hand. The first service will be September 9th in Brookings at the Pilot building at 7:00. Rabbi Les will have a class the following morning, at 10am, on the meaning and observance of the High Holidays. It sounds very interesting, as are all his classes. I urge you all to attend.
We are very lucky to have Rabbi Les which brings me to my next topic. In order to keep him, if possible, please pay the dues;sooner as opposed to later. Thank you.
So I look forward to seeing all of you soon.
Sincerely,
Susan Humphreys
