Shabbat(s), the seder, and Purim

Shalom all,

Because February is 28 days or exactly 4 weeks long, March falls in the exact same pattern as February.  Consequently, o
n Friday, March 13th (yes, Friday the 13th), we will, once again, be celebrating Shabbat as a congregation.  This time, however, we will be conducting services at the Temple in Crescent City (956 J Street; Crescent City, CA).  Services on Friday night will start at 7:00 p.m. and will (as usual) be led by Rabbi Les Scharnberg.

On Saturday, March 14th, we will hold another class on "Jewish Sacred Texts", which will, again, be held at the Temple in Crescent City beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Fees for the class are $5.00 per session or $50.00 for the ten session class.  Also, if you have not helped with membership dues in yet, please consider doing so.  While we never turn people away for lack of funds, we expect and appreciate support at the rate of $150 per person or $300 per couple for the year 5775.

For the remainder of the 5775 Temple "season" (through June), you can expect that we will hold Shabbat services and classes every second Shabbat of the month alternating between Crescent City and Brookings.  So, March 13th and 14th will be in Crescent City, April 10th and 11th will be in Brookings, May 8th and 9th will be in Crescent City and June 12th and 13th will conclude the season in Brookings.

We now have a firm plan to hold our community wide Passover Seder on Saturday, April 4th beginning at 4:00 p.m.  But in a departure from past seders, the seder this year will be held at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Brookings.  The address is 401 Fir Street, which is just across from Azalea Park.  This is the same location where we held our last Chanukah party.  As most of you know, the seder meal is a pot luck affair and Vivian will again, gratefully, be coordinating with congregation members regarding food items.  In addition, we generally collect a $5.00/person donation for the seder.  Also, we will need some volunteers to help set up, probably about 2:30 p.m.  So, if you are able and willing, your help will be greatly appreciated.

Finally, because this week begins the holiday of Purim, Andrea Lerner, one of our more recent congregants has passed along a link that her Rabbi in Chico sent out to his congregation as a guide for celebrating Purim at home.  You may find the link below.

I hope you all are doing well and enjoying this spring like weather.  All the very best to one and all.

B'shalom,

  - Marty Grodin
