This Week at Beth Shalom

We are not meeting this weekend. If  you're keeping track, the Torah reading this week is Emor, which (among other things) contains a complete list of holidays.  It is the only Torah portion that mentions four species of plants as part of the Sukkot celebration. The reading is from Leviticus 21:1-24:23.

We will meet next weekend for services at 7 on May 18, Torah study from 4:30-6 Saturday, May 20. Our congregational meeting is scheduled for 5 P.M. Sunday, May 21 at 5 P.M. We will discuss the future of Beth Shalom, and decide on new officers. Refreshments will be served. All events will be at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City.

Today (Thursday, May 10) is Lag B'Omer, the Scholars' Festival. It is an auspicious day for weddings, picnics and haircuts,a day of joy during the semi-mourning period of the Omer, between Passover and Shavuot.

Comments, suggestions, offers to plan a program or be an officer of the temple are welcome. Write to us at P.O. Box 1557. Crescent City, CA 95531. Send us an e-mail todelnortebethshalom@gmail.com, or post a comment on our blog, http://templebethshalom.blogspot.com. The blog also contains candle-lighting times for Crescent City from Chabad.

Next Sunday is Yom Yerushalayim, celebrating the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967.

Enjoy today's sunshine for Lag B'omer. Please come to services Friday, Torah study Saturday, and our meeting Sunday.
