This Weekend at Beth Shalom and the Holidays

We will celebrate Shabbat again Friday night at 7 P.M. at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City.

Torah study continues Saturday from 4:30- 6 P.M. at the temple. Our reading this week is Ki Tavo, the section with blessings and curses delivered to the people as they stand poised to enter The Land. We will read and discuss Deuteronomy 26:1- 29:8.

We will not have a Rosh Hashana service this year. Rosh Hashana begins Wednesday night, September 28, and continues until dark on Thursday in the Reform tradition, and until sunset Friday (when Shabbat begins) in the Conservative and Orthodox traditions in America. If you are able to travel, services are happening at Temple Beth El in Eureka, California, 86 miles from our temple, and at Temple Emek Shalom in Ashland, Oregon, 127 miles from us. Beth El can be reached at 707-444-2946; Emek Shalom at 541-488-2703.

We will have services for Shabbat Tshuvah, the sabbath between Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, on Friday, September 30 at 7 at the temple.

Services are also planned for Yom Kippur,  Friday night October 7 in the evening at 7 and Saturday, October 8 in the morning at 10. I will lead the evening service and Rabbi Joseph Hample, the rabbi at Pelican Bay State Prison, will lead the morning service. The evening service will include Kol Nidre and the morning will include Yizkor, the service of remembrance, and a Torah service. Each service will last about two hours.

There is no extra fee for Yom Kippur, however, the temple is asking for donations prior to services . You can mail donations to Temple Beth Shalom, P.O. Box 1557, Crescent City, CA 95531. There is a button to click on the blog to make donations using a credit card also.
