We will begin again, in this Hebrew month of Elul, before the Jewish New Year. Services will be at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City, this Friday at 7 P.M.
Torah study continues at the temple from 4:30- 6 P.M. Saturday. This week we read Ki Tetze, Deuteronomy 21:10-25:11. This contains a social and moral code for the Israelites. It will be interesting to see how this code differs from how we live today.
Plans are afoot for Yom Kipur prayer services. More news next week. It is unlikely that we will have a Rosh Hashana service this year. There are synagogues in Eureka and Ashland, and a group in Coos County, Oregon that will have services.
As we start another year at Beth Shalom, I would encourage anyone to donate money ( send a check to Beth Shalom. P.O. Box 1557, Crescent City, CA 95531). We do not receive mail at the temple address. Also, we need volunteers to lead weekly services. Comments and suggestions are always welcome, as well. You can reply to this e-mail.
I'm optimistic about this next year at Beth Shalom, and I hope you are too.
