It's officially November now, and the secular year is coming to a roaring finish.
This weekend, we will meet again on Friday night, November 5 at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City, at 7 PM to welcome shabbat. Barbara Johnston is leading the service. This may be the last service she leads before returning to her permanent home in Contra Costa County. We will miss her.
Torah study continues with Toldot, Genesis 26:1- 28:9 on Saturday from 10AM - noon at the temple. This section includes the rivalry between Jacob and Esau. It is a case history in family psychology with lessons for today.
Mark your calendars for the following this month and into December:
Friday night services November 5, 12, and 19. No services on November 26, Thanksgiving weekend, as many of our regulars will be out of town. We need leaders for the 12th and 19th.
Torah study on the November 6, and 20. No Torah study on November 27.
On November 13, we will have a Saturday morning service, including a Torah service, led by Rabbi Les Scharnberg. It would be great if we could get a minyan (10 Jews) to this service. It's a rare opportunity to pray the Saturday morning liturgy.
Chanukka begins Wednesday night, December 1. We will celebrate Chanukka at Beth Shalom's gala party on Saturday evening, December 4. It will be a pot-luck with games, songs and latkkes, suitable for all ages. Details to follow.
We are looking for articles for a newsletter to come out before Chanukka. If you want to write an article, please contact me at delnortebethshalom@gmail.com. I would like to hear about the history of the synagogue, or perhaps a memory of a Chanukka past. Use your imagination!
Thanks to Abby Layton for leading a wonderful service last Friday.
