Shalom everyone!
I just want to remind everyone that because of a prior scheduling conflict, our October Shabbat services and class needed to be rescheduled to this coming weekend rather than the second Shabbat of the month. Thus, this Friday, October 23rd, we will be having Shabbat services in the Curry Coastal Pilot conference room in Brookings. Please enter through the double red doors at the rear of the building on Art Walk Alley. Services begin at 7:00 pm and will, as usual, by led by Rabbi Les Scharnberg.
On Saturday, October 24th, we will begin a new class which we are calling, "The Torah - Inconsistencies and Survival". The class will be based upon two texts, "The Book of J" and "The Jew in the Lotus". I think everyone will find this class highly stimulating and, perhaps, a bit controversial as well. Should be fun. As usual, class fees are $50/person (or $5/class) and are based on a ten session course. However, if history is any guide, this could very well spill over into a longer course schedule. Class on Saturday, October 24th will begin at 10:00 a.m. and will, again, be held in the Curry Coastal Pilot conference room.
After October, we will return to our usual schedule of the second Shabbat of the month and services and classes will alternate between Crescent City and Brookings. So, on November 13th and 14th, Shabbat activities will be held at the Temple in Crescent City (956 "J" Street) and in December, Shabbat will be held in Brookings with services on Friday, December 11th and class on Saturday, December 12th.
And, once again, I'd like to remind folks that Temple activities don't come without a cost and if one values what Temple Beth Shalom has to offer, financial support is necessary. While we never turn people away for lack of funds, we expect and appreciate support at the rate of $150 per person or $300 per couple for the year 5776. If you are fortunate to be able to give more, that generosity is greatly appreciated. And I should add that the earlier you make your contribution of dues, the less financial stress is put upon the Temple and planning for the year is made easier for all concerned. Thank you, in advance, for your consideration.
I look forward to seeing you all this Shabbat.
B'shalom,
- Marty
