This Week at Beth Shalom

We will be back this Friday night with shabbat services at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City, at 7 P.M.

The festival of Purim, a minor holiday about how the Jews of Persia were saved from annihilation by Queen Esther and her cousin Mordechai, takes place Wednesday night, March 7 and Thurday, March 8. One requirement of the holiday is to read the Scroll of Esther.

We will read Esther this Saturday at Torah study from 4-6:30. Another Purim tradition is to give presents (usually two types of food) to at least two friends, and gifts to the poor. We'll have some treats this Friday night and Saturday. We are not celebrating Purim at the temple on the date of the holiday.

If you are interested in being an officer of the temple, creating a program, leading services, or if you have a comment or suggestion, please notify us at delnortebethshalom@gmail.com. You can comment on our blog at http://templebethshalom.blogspot.com or by U.S. Mail at P.O. Box 1557, Crescent City, CA 95531. There is a phone number on the blog. That is voice mail only, so no one will answer that phone, and it may take a day or two to get a response back.

We are in the Hebrew month of Adar, a time when we are commanded to be joyous. Adar this year is from February 24 to March 23. Enjoy!
