Memorial Day Weekend

We will meet again at 7 P.M. Friday for shabbat services at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City.

Torah study will continue Saturday from 4:30-6:30 for those who are in town this holiday weekend. This week we begin the book Of Numbers. We are back to stories after the laws of Leviticus. Parshat Bamidbar is Numbers 1:1-4:20.

After consulting with the regulars, we have decided to combine Torah study and services. Beginning in June, Torah study will be from 4-6 P.M. Friday. Services will continue at 7 P.M. This will save gas for people coming from Smith River, Hiouchi and Brookings. We will celebrate shavuot on June 3 with a special service and cheese pizza before services at 6 P.M. Shavuot actually begins Tuesday night, June 7 and runs one or two days, depending on which branch of Judaism one follows.

Feel free to send any comments to delnortebethshalom@gmail.com. Written notes can be mailed to Beth Shalom at P.O. Box 1557, Crescent City, CA 95531.

Enjoy the upcoming holiday weekend and remember our veterans this Memorial Day.

This Week at Beth Shalom

Thanks to Jill Munger for offering to lead services last week.

We will meet again to celebrate shabbat at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City, at 7 P.M. Friday.

Torah study continues Saturday from 4:30-6:30 P.M. at the temple. Our parsha this week is Bechukotai, Leviticus 26:3 to the end of Leviticus. This section contains blessings and some scary curses.

Lag B'Omer is this Saturday night and Sunday. It is a respite from the semi-mourning period between Passover and Shavuot. It is celebrated with weddings and haircuts, bonfires and bows and arrows. We will mention it Friday night.

We are discussing the future of the congregation when we gather, with the possibility of a formal meeting in early June. If you have thoughts about the board, the rabbi, or the timing of services and study, come to services or torah study or drop a note to delnortebethshalom@gmail.com. We are also looking at possibly expanding our presence in Brookings-Harbor.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

This Week at Beth Shalom

Thanks to Barbara Johnston, now safely back in Contra Costa County, for leading services last week. Thanks also to everyone who came out to greet and support her Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

We will meet at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City, at 7 P.M. Friday to greet Shabbat. Joe and I will not be there, and I am looking for someone to lead services and someone with a key to promise to show up. Please let me know.

Torah study continues Saturday from 4:30-6:30 at the temple. The parsha is Behar, Leviticus 25:1-26:2. This section includes the rules about the sabbatical and jubilee years. It also contains the verse on the Liberty Bell: "Proclaim liberty throughout the land unto all the inhabitants thereof."

The Return of Barbara Johnston!

We will meet Friday night at 7 at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City to celebrateShabbat. Our member Barbara Johnston, who left us to return to her family in the San Francisco Bay area late last year, will return this weekend and lead services.

Torah study continues from 4:30-6:30 at the temple. Our parsha (weekly reading) is Emor, Leviticus 21:1-24:23. This section covers many topics, including a listing of all the holidays in the calendar.

We are starting to talk about a meeting for June to reconstitute the board. If you would like to participate, write a note to us at delnortebethshalom@gmail.com. What's a good time and place for a meeting? Do you want to be an officer? What would you like to change at temple?
