News From Beth Shalom

We will gather Friday night at 7 at the temple, 956 J Street in Crescent City, to once again greet Shabbat. Judi Lewis will be leading services this week. Last week, we had 10 people in attendance and took out the Torah scroll to celebrate. Thanks to Rosie Munger for leading last week.

Torah study continues from 10 AM to noon Saturday at the temple. The parsha is Re'eh, where the sacrificial cult becomes centralized. Stop by on the way to The Del Norte County Fair.

The e-mail edition of our newsletter is out. Snail mail copies will be posted this week. If you are reading this, have e-mail and didn't get the newsletter, send a note back to delnortebethshalom@gmail.com. Thanks to Rabbi Joe Hample and Mordechai Pelta for contributing articles, and kudos to Miriam Felt for editing and formatting the newsletter.

Our pot-luck picnic Sunday was a success. At 63, it was possibly the warmest day in Crescent City this year so far, and we had a pleasant afternoon sharing a meal and basking in the summer sun, until the clouds came back. Thanks to Vivian for recruiting for the picnic and Judi and Barbara for purchasing supplies.

Rosh Hashana second day services are the evening of September 8 and the morning of September 9, led by Rabbi Les Scharnberg. This is the second day of Rosh Hashana. We are adding a Yom Kippur service to our High Holy Day schedule, featuring Rabbi Joe Hample. Details will be available soon.

Hebrew class in Brookings continues. Please contact Vivian at 541-412-7015 if you still want to join.

Dues for the coming year 5771 can be paid now. We are asking for $360 per family. Some people are giving in-kind support, or paying monthly or giving what they can. Checks can be mailed to Temple Beth Shalom, PO Box 1557, Crescent City, CA 95531. Contact our treasurer, Judi Lewis, at judiwlewis@charter.net, or at-large board member Barbara Johnston at chicdrpsy@yahoo.com for more information.

Enjoy the remainder of the week and have a peaceful shabbat.

Barry
