Channuka Plans for the Borderlands

Let's get ready to DREIDELLLL!!!  I hope everyone has been saving up some gelt for our Channukah celebration.  We've secured the banquet room at the Ship Ashore in Smith River, CA. This is the same place we usually hold our Pesach Seder every year.

This pot luck dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Sunday, December 13th which will be the third night of Channukah.

Traditionally, everyone brings a Channukiot (candelabra) and we all light them together.  Then we enjoy songs and dancing along with games of dreidel and oily foods.  Latkes and sufganyot (powdered jelly doughnuts) are traditional along with any food cooked or served with oil, representing the holy oil used to light the Menorah in G-d's holy Temple in Jerusalem.

Please refer to our Google calendar below for a map to the Ship Ashore.

Second Saturday Brookings Torah Study for November

Anyone who missed the special pot luck dinner after Torah study and Havdalah this weekend at Barbara's home in Brookings missed a spectacular feast of savory pot roast, a delicious cabernet, mouth watering salad wraps and sweet fine noodle kugel, not to mention a deep study of the story of Abraham, Lot and their dealings as participants in the saga of Sodom and Gommorah.

This Saturday, November 14th we will meet at 10:00 a.m. to discuss parshah Chayei Sarah (Genesis 23:1 - 25:18) with Rabbi Les Scharnberg at the Evergreen bank in Brookings, OR.  Because of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, this will be the last meeting with Rabbi Scharnberg until December.  We will discuss the possibility of study meetings after Torah study.

Hebrew language study will follow Torah study after a one hour break at a location to be determined.

SPECIAL: This Saturday Torah Study and Havdalah in Brookings

November is a busy month for everyone, with cleaning up from Halloween tricks and treats to roasting the perfect Turkey and stuffing at the end of the month. As a result we will not have our regular fourth Friday Shabbat services or fourth Saturday Torah study.

To accommodate we have arranged to have a special late afternoon Torah study, Havdalah and Pot Luck this coming Saturday in Brookings at Barbara Colton's home. G-d willing, we will meet on Saturday, November 7 at 3:30 pm in Brookings. The meeting will be at 1303 Moore Street, apt. 203.

Rabbi Les will lead us in the study of parshah Vayera (Genesis 18:1 - 22:24) followed by Havdalah and a pot luck dinner. Please call Barbara for details at 541.813.1141. You can also email us at delnortebethshalom@gmail.com.

Our regular Second Saturday Torah study is still scheduled to be held at Evergreen Bank in Brookings on Saturday, November 14 at 10:00 am.

Hope to see everyone this Saturday.
